About HalalHooks

HalalHooks is a directory of halal restaurants and grocery stores in the United States. It currently lists 3,287 places across 654 cities in 49 states — 2,279 places to eat and 1,008 places to shop.

Why it exists

Finding halal food is not really a mapping problem — a map search will happily return a hundred results. The hard part is knowing which of them are actually halal, and on what basis. Most directories answer that by listing everything and saying nothing. We would rather tell you what we know, name where we learned it, and be plain about the listings we have not checked.

That is why every listing shows its halal status and its source, and why the ones without a status say so out loud. How we verify explains the whole method, including its limits.

What it does not do

• We do not publish ratings or review counts. Other sites do that well, and a listing here is not a review.
• We do not take payment for placement. There is no way to buy a higher position.
• We do not claim a listing is verified when it is not.
